Atacama Crossing (2009) blog posts from Karen Von Grabowiecki

16 April 2009 03:30 am (GMT) Greenwich Mean Time: Dublin, Edinburgh, Lisbon, London

Hey Everyone! I just wanted to create a quick blog for my friends, family and colleagues to read while I am gone. Some of you already know that I have recently decided to run for charity rather than just trying to survive without doing any good, so I created a website www.justgiving.com/karenvongrabowiecki (text attached below) where everyone can support a very good cause and a great charity that is not a money waster (over 90% of the money goes to the cause, I have done the research).

In a few hours I will head down to the airport here in London and will have to face the first challenge: the 27h trip to Chile. Uh, great fun! ;-)
Most of you, who know me are aware that I am somewhat a stubborn person (not my greatest quality I am aware of that face, thank you) and despite the evidence and lack of experience I decided to turn my life around and become a runner. I though I start of with this race. So my goal is not to win, obviously, but to get to the end, alive... I am sure there will be more than a few mental barriers to break and also lots of physical ones. We will see if my "happy music"-emergency play list on my IPod will get me through the toughest of times.

Oh, by the way here is the text that I wrote on my Charity site:

My Challenge: The Atacama Crossing 2009!

I am running 250km in 7 days through the driest desert on earth at an altitude of up to 3000m and temperatures of 35

Good luck sweetie!!! I hope that the journey to Chile went well and that you gave your legs a good old rest on the plane....you will need it! Thinking of you on your journey of a lifetime!!
